From within or from behind, a light shines through us upon things, and makes us aware that we are nothing, but the light is all.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

About
My goal as a photographer is to capture that ephemeral moment when light and vision converge—to create an image that reveals something of the essential soul of an individual, the fundamental essence of a landscape, or the fleeting moment that defines an event. My work is spontaneous and candid, yet classical in style. I seek to see beyond the surface of people and events, to see things from a unique perspective and in a new light.

I photograph fine art landscapes, portraits, and events including high school seniors, families, couples, children, weddings, and school functions, in a variety of styles including traditional portraiture and artistic fine art photography. Consider me for that family portrait you've been wanting for the family room; the senior portrait you need for your graduation announcement; the maternity and baby shots that will forever commemorate the beauty of your pregnancy and newborn child. I aim to provide professional photography at a reasonable price.

I work with a full-frame mirrorless Canon R5, one of the best portrait cameras available, with several zoom and prime lenses. I have a pair of portable studio lights, several backdrops, and a set of reflectors for shooting on-location.

Oh—and the name? It comes from a favorite quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

"The soul in man is not an organ, but animates and exercises all the organs; is not a function, like the power of memory, of calculation, of comparison, but uses these as hands and feet; is not a faculty, but a light; is not the intellect or the will, but the master of the intellect and the will; is the background of our being, in which they lie, —an immensity not possessed and that cannot be possessed. From within or from behind, a light shines through us upon things, and makes us aware that we are nothing, but the light is all."

I enjoy your work and have made yo a Flickr contact. I have been on Flickr for a number of years and I think I'm a better photographer for it. Photography is a means to make art and history accessible for everyone.

In the event you are interested in my story, I am 67, worked in IT for many years and now spend much of my time writing - poetry and novels. I picked up a camera at age 18 and haven't put it down since.

Great site Kevin. You take a lot more photos than I do with my Nikon D90 and my mom urges me to do more now and then.

I turn the ripe old age of 55 this year and I think more and more recently after celebrating my mom's 77th birthday here on January 18th 2017 that I am getting myself in the mode of trying to do things that are more creative. I was in the highest art class available to student when I was in high school and actually got a certificate of fine arts award from Eastern Washington University that I never actually attended. Anyway, I need to get back to using those skills I hope I still have with especially my left hand here and I hope my vision has not gotten so bad that it makes it hard to do detail because I do like to spend time on things like that in anything I do in life.

Keep up the awesome work for years to come Kevin.
